Barbara A. Tomko, 69 of Griffith, formerly of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at her residence. She was the beloved daughter of the late George and Ann (nee Yatz) Tomko; loving sister of Ann Marie (John) Buckley of San Marcos, TX, Tina (Thomas) Yearsich of Dyer and Cecilia Mackowicz of Hessville; cherished aunt to one niece and seven nephews; many great nieces and nephews; dear niece of Helen Cross and Marilyn Tomko; many cousins and her pet cockatiel, “TJ”.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with the Rev. Jerome P. Stack, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00pm; parish wake service at the funeral home on Sunday at 4:00pm.

Barb Tomko was born on June 11, 1947 and was a lifelong resident of the Calumet Region. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting where she had participated as a Eucharistic Minister, was a CCD Instructor and had sung in the Adult Choir. She was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1965 and was a retiree of the Amoco Oil (BP) Whiting Refinery with a service of 30 years.  Barb loved spending time in her garden and enjoyed the great outdoors. She was an avid Chicago White Sox fan and a San Antonio Spurs fan. Devoted to her family, Barbara will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials to either the Whiting Food Pantry or the St. John School Endowment Fund would be appreciated
