Anthony W. “Tony” Barilla, 86 of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite (Holman) Barilla who passed away October 9, 1986; loving father of Jean (John) Lovasko and Tony (Janet) Barilla; cherished grandpa of Jonathan (Liz) Lovasko, Emelie and Mollie Lovasko, Samantha, Miles and Ben Barilla; dear brother-in-law, Albert (late Peggy) Holman; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Grabovac.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017, 9:30am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. John Cemetery, Hammond; visitation at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00pm. Members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Sunday at 4:00pm.

Tony Barilla was born on November 10, 1932 in Whiting, Indiana to Anthony and Mary (Kaminsky) Barilla. He was a lifelong resident and a graduate of Catholic Central (Bishop Noll) High School, Class of 1950. Tony was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting where he served as a lector, was on the parish centennial committee in1997 and was a member of the former Holy Name Society. He was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council 1696 (prayers Sunday at 5:30pm) where he had served on the Columbian Club, was a past Grand Knight, was past chairman of the Monday Night Bingo, bowled with the KofC League and sang with “The Knight Sounds”. He was a member of the 4th Degree, Abraham Lincoln General Assembly of Lake County. He was a retiree of Wilton Enterprises of Woodridge, IL with a service of 30 years. Devoted to his family, Tony will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to “Forever Blue and Gold” (St. John School Alumni Assoc.) would be appreciated.
